We have now have 3 scholarships offered through the preschool: Cindy Zirbel Memorial Scholarship, the Friendship Scholarship, and the NEW Grandma Evelyn Schmidt Memorial Scholarship.
We also offer a scholarship through FMC Early Childhood Iowa. These forms are given out in July. This scholarship is income-based, but all are encouraged to apply.
Cindy Zirbel Memorial Scholarship (Link Coming in July!)
Cindy Zirbel was involved in our preschool for almost 30 years. She began as a volunteer, was later hired as a part-time teacher and then as a full-time teacher and assistant director. Cindy touched many lives in doing what she loved to do.
The Cindy Zirbel Memorial Scholarship has been established through the generosity of Cindy’s husband, parents and siblings. Cindy and her husband, Jim, believed in and set a high priority on the Christian preschool experience for their own children. This scholarship will be awarded to a family with the same priority.
The scholarship application guidelines are as follows:
- Three scholarships – in the amount of $30 a month will be awarded for the current school year.
- Any family who has a child in the 5-Day afternoon class and will not be receiving FMC Early Childhood Iowa funds is encouraged to apply. Families can apply for more than one scholarship, but can only receive one scholarship for the year.
- An informal paper of two or three paragraphs should be written telling us about your family and why you chose St. John Christian Preschool for your child.
Friendship Scholarship (Link Coming in July!)
At St. John Christian Preschool we are dedicated to providing a Christian environment where our youngest learners can develop spiritually, academically, physically and socially. We strive to provide a curriculum that not only will teach ABC’s and 123’s, but will also teach our preschoolers how to be kind and gentle friends.
The St. John Christian Preschool Board has created the following scholarship for our youngest “friends” using the many donations that have been given. This scholarship will be awarded to a family who hopes to not only establish a strong educational foundation for their little one, but also hopes to raise their child to be a kind and gentle friend who will one day give back to his or her community.
The scholarship application guidelines are as follows:
- Four scholarships – two in the amount of $55 a month will be awarded for the current school year.
- Any family who has a child in the Monday-WednesdayFriday morning class and is not receiving FMC Early Childhood Iowa funds is encouraged to apply. Families can apply for more than one scholarship, but can only receive one scholarship for the year.
- An informal paper of two or three paragraphs should be written telling us how you think your child’s preschool experience will impact the person they later become.
Grandma Evelyn Schmidt Memorial Scholarship (Link Coming in July!)
Evelyn Schmidt was involved in our preschool for over 30 years. Evelyn started with the Foster Grandparent program in Charles City and then immediately started at St. John Christian Preschool where she was known as Grandma Evelyn.
Grandma Evelyn taught many preschoolers their colors, their abc’s, and was always ready for playtime. Grandma Evelyn retired from the Foster Grandparent program at the age of 96, and sadly she passed away at the age of 97.
The Grandma Evelyn Memorial Scholarship has been established through the generosity of her grandson and his wife. Evelyn’s grandson, Sam, started his education at St. John Christian Preschool when it was Jack and Jill Preschool. Evelyn’s grandson is very proud of his grandma’s many years of service and all the preschoolers’ lives she impacted.
